Planning Your Visit

When to Go
The weather in Sao Paulo is the opposite season of Europe and the United States. Because of this, the best time to go to Sao Paulo is during the months from November to March, where the average temperature is no cooler than 60 degrees in the evening and is in the low 80's during the day.

Climate
Sao Paulo has a mild climate with temperatures averaging 66°F (19°C).

Getting There
The international airport, Guarulhos is situated 30km east of the Sao Paulo.

Sao Paulo has constant traffic jams. The all-day rush hour means the trip downtown can easily take 1 hour 30 minutes.

There are good bus connections from the airport. Air-conditioned buses leave every half hour for three different destinations: Praca da Republica, Terminal Tiete (bus terminal) and Congonhas airport. The cost is about 10 dollars. For the same price, there is also another bus that does a circuit of the hotels around Avenida Paulista, including Caesar Park, Crown Plaza, Renaissance and Sheraton.

Both common taxis and airport taxis are very expensive - as much as US$ 60-80.

Budgeting
The Brazilian monetary unit is the Real (R$), the plural is reais. There are 100 centavos to the Real. The US dollar is welcome in most tourist establishments. In the main cities foreign currencies and travelers' checks can be exchanged at banks or cambios. There is an large number of ATMs in the country and most major international credit cards are accepted. Rates are reasonable in Sao Paulo and a budget traveler can get by without having to dig deep in their pockets. Here's an example of the costs you will incur:

Food: You can expect a skimpy budget for food at R$15-30. But if you want to be more realistic, try budgeting R$30-40 per meal.
Accommodations: You can stay at a nice 4 star hotel in Sao Paulo for between $40-75 per night. There are many to choose from and they are conveniently located to many attractions.
Tours: You can travel around and sightsee at many free areas, or you can choose to go on a half day or full day tour, which will cost about $39-75.

Getting Around
A great way to get around in Sao Paulo is by using the metro system. By doing this you can avoid the horrible traffic! Be aware of your belongings, though! Because as in any large city, the pickpockets are always alert. By clicking in the web address below, you will be on the official page of Sao Paulo's Metro System. Dining
Sao Paulo's people are as diverse as the world itself. Because of this true melting pot of a culture, ethnic neighborhoods and immigrants from all over the globe all contribute their own unique cuisine to the many restaurants available. Sao Paulo has been classified, along with Paris, New York and Tokyo, as one of the four cities in the world best served by restaurants.
